MFA Independent Study

The goal of this independent interior design exploration was to focus on conceptual development and space planning of residential spaces. Using Revit 3-D modeling software I created realistic and compelling renderings, views and elevations. Throughout the study I performed industry relevant client research and applied environmentally friendly materials and furnishings to the space.

Project brief:

Terra Cotta & Co. is a New York City based product and lifestyle brand. The brand began as a small startup in 2010 and has worked its way from a one woman show to a small team of 9 individuals plus a production and off-site design team.

Terra Cotta & Co. specializes in home decor products including vessels, vases, pottery, dish wear, and candles. The product line also includes wearable jewelry and a collection of textile designs featured on down feather pillows.

For several years the small team has worked out for the creative director’s apartment in downtown Manhattan, but as the company expands the team is looking for a place where they can leave “work at work”. According to an article published by CIRE magazine, the design of office spaces is changing rapidly. The day of large private office spaces is no longer, and teams have been showing higher levels of proficiency when working in an open, casual, and cozy space (N.A., 10 Trends in Office Design, 2022).

A spacious commercial location is not necessary to accommodate the team. Instead the team is looking to rent a residential space that can flex as an office. With the product line consisting mainly of home décor items, the team is excited to work in a residential setting to showcase the products in real-life scenarios.
